"For many years only the therapeutic elite could offer treatment programs in Texas. Not any more!" That  is a quote from Mr. Don Willett, a member of Governor George Bush's staff, when he addressed an assembly of criminal justice ministry faith-based program providers at  Sam Houston State University, August 23, 1997. He went on to say, "People now have a choice."

The Therapon Institute now offers Alternative Counselor Certification and Licensing! Texas is the first state to establish a registration process for substance abuse treatment and recovery programs that recognizes the value of faith-based counseling.

The Governor's Task Force on Faith-Based Community Service Groups wisely recommended: "Urge faith-based programs to form, on a private, association basis, a peer self-study and accrediting process to identify best practices and performance standards, support training technical assistance initiatives, etc." The Therapon Institute was established to do that. We have established The Therapon Institute to help develop and preserve the integrity, value, and reputation of Christian, faith-based counseling as a necessary part of the healing process.

The integrity and reputation of faith-based counseling is now in the hands of those of us who wish to prove that the  State's level of trust is well-placed.

Governor Bush and State Legislators have done their part by passing H.B.Number 2481. Now it is time for those of  us who believe in faith-based, Christian counseling to do our part,  i.e., initiate the Task Force's recommendation that we establish our own faith-based certification and accrediting entity.

The Therapon Institute offers Biblical Counselor Certification based upon our exclusive faith-based therapeutic treatment model, Belief Therapy, not solely as an alternative to traditional treatment and recovery programs, but to help identify life-controlling problems and to process the deep spiritual recovery issues of hurting and healing people.

Therapon Certification is recommended for any caring Christian desiring a full-time or part-time ministry helping hurting people (HHP) through the confusing maze of a wide range of recovery issues such as divorce, marriage counseling, grief, compulsive behavior, anger management,  problematic thinking errors, emotional trauma, abuse,  relapse prevention, and criminal recovery.
